Devotional – Mustard Seed Faith

When talking to people on the phone we often get onto the subject of faith to talking about faith –and how important it is in seeing our Prayers come to pass.

So I often talk about the mustard seed faith that we read about in the Bible.

“I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” Matthew 17.20   Jesus knew that we would struggle in having faith in something we cannot see – but He asks us to have just a tiny bit of faith.  Faith as small as a mustard seed.

Later in Matthew 8.26 when Jesus was in the boat with the disciples and the storm was heavy and they thought they were perishing He said to them “Why are you afraid, you of little faith?”

“You of little faith," Jesus replied, "why are you so afraid?"

Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it was perfectly calm.

Sometimes we are afraid to have faith.  Afraid to hope. We fear being disappointed, fear feeling or looking foolish, fear failure. But when we stop looking at ourselves and what we can’t do, and start looking at Jesus and what He can do we can put that mustard seed faith into in to action.

I love this most beautiful follow up to our tiny mustard seed faith – Matthew 13.31

“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a man planted in his field. Although it is the smallest of all seeds, yet it grows into the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches”

This is a picture of a faith grown in to something that others other will benefit from.

Do you need to hear today that your tiny faith can turn into in to something so big when you plant your faith in Him?

Don’t waste your faith by looking at what you can’t do, instead invest your faith trusting in what God can do.
